1.) Make sure all of your small loose items are packed. Small loose items take time to move and pack in the truck. They can also come loose while the truck is in motion.

2.) When the movers arrive, be sure to show them everything that you want them to take. Forgetting to tell them, or telling them later in the move can cause time to be wasted as the movers have to re-organize the load in the truck to accommodate additional items. Certain items require extra padding or wall space in the truck. It’s best that the movers know everything that they have to take so that they can safely secure all your items without spending additional time rearranging the load.

3.) If possible, take the parking space in front of your door the night before. That way the movers can take the parking spot when they arrive. The farther away the movers have to park the truck, the longer it takes to move each item.

4.) Not taking everything? Have some items in the place going and others staying? An easy way to make it clear what items need to be moved is to put stickers on anything that needs to be moved. That way the movers know what to take and what to leave without wasting time.

5.) If there are elevators in your building needed for your move, inform your building manager. The manager can usually arrange for your movers to use one of the elevators exclusively. That way the movers don’t waste time waiting for an elevator to become available.

6.) If you have any glass tabletops or picture frames, box them. You can purchase boxes that are specially made for glass. This way the movers can safely and quickly secure your glass items.

7.) If you have purchased an item from a store that we are delivering for you, make sure it’s ready. Big stores like Ikea can and will make mistakes. A simple call to double check on the availability of your purchase can make all the difference. You don’t want to pay for by the hour movers just to have them sit and wait outside the store.
